Applications are open for the IHS AI Workforce Faculty Research Grant Program 2027. There is significant debate about the effect the adoption of artificial intelligence will have on work. However, more long-term research and data on this question is needed. This request for proposals aims to fill that gap.
Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) invites applications from academic scholars whose research pertains to how AI influences employment, productivity, occupational change, economic opportunity, and innovation over time. They are especially interested in proposals that bridge disciplines. Research deliverables can include peer-reviewed publications, policy white papers, or shareable research databases.
Grant
- Awarded scholars may receive up to $20,000. Larger awards may be considered for exceptional projects.
Eligibility
Funds may be used for:
- Travel and Research Activities: travel for conference presentations and archival research; research collaboration such as hiring a research assistant.
- Data and Research Materials: purchase of datasets; LLM subscriptions for specialized research sources.
- Publishing and Dissemination: journal submission fees; book publication expenses such as copyediting or indexing; preparation of research manuscripts.

The application deadline is December 15, 2026. Decisions will be announced on January 15, 2027.
