Applications are open for the YALI Rwanda Chapter Legacy Leaders Training Programme 2026. The YALI Rwanda Chapter Legacy Leaders Training Programme cascades the Regional Leadership Center East Africa’s leadership curriculum to young Africans across different tracks — Civic Leadership, Business & Entrepreneurship, Public Management, Emerging Technology, and Crosscutting.

The Young African Leaders Initiative Rwanda Chapter is a non-profit organisation registered in Rwanda, founded by the former Rwandan participants of YALI RLC EA to carry forward the Legacy of the American People through USAID and the Regional Leadership Centre East Africa (Formerly YALI RLC EA). Their mission is to empower young people in Rwanda with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.

Eligibility

Open to young leaders who meet the following criteria:

  • Are 18 to 35 years of age at the time of application submission.
  • Are citizens of one of the following countries: Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda — wherever they currently live.
  • Are eligible to receive any necessary visa to Rwanda.
  • Are proficient in English (reading, writing, listening and speaking).
  • Has never attended YALI RLC Trainings (Alumni of YALI RLC are not allowed).

Selection Criteria

Selection panels will use the following criteria to evaluate applications:

  • Demonstrated leadership in public service, business, entrepreneurship or civic life, shown through a specific example (assessed from your interview)
  • Active engagement in community service, volunteering or mentoring others (assessed from your interview and written answers)
  • Works cooperatively with people who see things differently, and respects their opinions (assessed from your interview)
  • Clear, confident communication and a positive, energetic attitude (assessed from your interview)
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, the chosen track, with relevant experience (assessed from your interview)
  • Understanding of ethical, accountable leadership and a clear commitment to apply it for the benefit of their country or community (assessed from your written answers)
  • Thoughtful, original reflection on the leadership ideas raised in the application (assessed from your written answers)
