Applications are open for the Carnegie Mellon University Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Africa 2027. The CMU-Africa Certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Africa is a six-course online program designed for learners interested in building AI applications relevant to the African context. Hands-on exercises using industry-standard tools empower learners with the competency and confidence to thrive in the continent’s competitive markets. The certificate program is cost-free for qualified applicants.

  • Design real-world challenges into data-driven AI solutions that are effective, relevant, and deployable
  • Determine the impact of AI solutions, using appropriate metrics, validation techniques, and critical thinking

Structure

The certificate has six courses with 14 or 15 lessons in each course. The lessons are designed to be completed by qualified learners in approximately three hours each, giving a total time of approximately 45 hours to complete each course.
