Deadline: On Rolling Basis

Applications are open for the Institute for Policy Integrity Legal Fellowship 2027. The Institute for Policy Integrity (Policy Integrity) is seeking applicants for a two-year legal fellowship with a focus on regulatory policy. This position is based in the New York City office.

Housed at the New York University School of Law, the Institute Policy Integrity (Policy Integrity) is a non-partisan think tank dedicated to improving the quality of government decision making. Their principal focus is U.S. energy and environmental policy, with a particular emphasis on climate change. They produce original scholarly research in the fields of economics, law, and regulatory policy. They also advocate for reform before courts and agencies.

Responsibilities

Legal Fellows may be assigned projects across a range of substantive areas or may be tasked to specialize in a key area depending on the fellow’s experience and Policy Integrity’s priorities. Legal Fellows work with Policy Integrity’s economists, lawyers, and policy analysts to:

  • draft amicus briefs to the Supreme Court, D.C. Circuit, and other courts in major policy cases;
  • draft regulatory comments, petitions for rulemakings, and other formal submissions to federal and state agencies including state Public Utility Commissions, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Interior, and the Department of Health and Human Services;
  • advise other advocacy organizations on how to navigate regulatory impact analyses;
  • supervise the work of NYU Law School students in the Regulatory Policy Clinic; and
  • publish academic articles and op‐eds.

Benefits

  • In compliance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $88,000–$104,000. NYU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, applicant’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
  • NYU offers an excellent, comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off and retirement contributions. Partial relocation assistance will be provided. Policy Integrity staff members also have access to academic enrichment opportunities at NYU School of Law, including some faculty workshops, colloquia, and other scholarly forums.

Eligibility

  • Have a J.D., with superior academic achievement;
  • 0–3 years of legal experience;
  • Clerkships, litigation experience, legislative experience, or advanced degrees in relevant disciplines are valued, but not necessary; and
  • Applicants’ written materials will be reviewed to assess their professionalism, independent thinking, and persuasive writing skills, as well as their ability and willingness to absorb new subject matters in law and policy.

Application

Applicants should submit:

  • a cover letter detailing your interest in the position and your relevant experience;
  • a resume;
  • law school and undergraduate transcripts;
  • two writing samples, with a preference for independently authored briefs (candidates may submit jointly authored briefs if the candidate played a significant role in the brief’s drafting), memoranda, articles, blog posts, public comments, reports, or other relevant writings (including excerpts) of no more than 20 pages in length;
  • a brief statement (less than one page) on how your background or experiences would enhance the diversity, inclusivity, or perspectives of Policy Integrity; and
  • the names and contact information of three references.

Applicants should send all materials to [email protected], with “Legal Fellow” in the subject line. Application review will begin November 9th, 2026, after this date applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all open positions are filled.
