Deadline: October 18, 2024

Applications are open for the AI Journalism Labs 2025 at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Embark on a journey of innovation! These 3-month hybrid, tuition-free and highly participatory programs invite journalists to explore generative AI through theory and practice and add meaningfully to the conversation.

The AI Journalism Labs were developed by J+ at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, with support from Microsoft, to involve journalists in finding ways to navigate and harness generative AI in ethical ways that reinforce trust from communities and increase impact. They believe that journalists should have a direct understanding of AI through experimentation to be able to think strategically about its applications to their work.

In that spirit, the following programs adopt a seminar-and-lab model, alternating classes between lectures by AI visionaries and hands-on sessions by seasoned practitioners, many opportunities for meaningful conversations, and a final capstone project overseen by a coach.

Participants in the AI Journalism Labs will:

  • Gain confidence in their ability to deploy AI tools in their work in an ethical & equitable way.
  • Sharpen their understanding of emerging technologies.
  • Cultivate a big picture perspective of how artificial intelligence intersects with journalism ethics now and in the future.
  • Lead discussions and strategies around AI in their newsrooms.
  • Receive ongoing support in their learning journey and career development
  • Become part of the solution.

Cost

  • Thanks to the support of Microsoft, the program is tuition-free if you are selected.

Eligibility

  • Open to International applicants. Part of the mission of this program is to bring together a diverse cohort of media leaders that can benefit from each other’s experience.
