Deadline: November 19, 2025

Applications for the Your AI Horizons Challenge 2025 are now open. The Your AI Horizons Challenge is a nationwide challenge inspiring high school students to envision AI-driven careers. The U.S. Department of Education invites high schools to propose AI solutions that reimagine traditional ways of working. Through this challenge, students will explore artificial intelligence’s impact on industries and their future careers.

The purpose of the Your AI Horizons Challenge is to create engaging learning opportunities that equip students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in an AI-ready workforce and encourage students to explore AI’s impact on industries and their future careers.

Prize

  • Up to 10 winning teams will receive an equal share of the $50,000 prize pool.

Eligibility

An eligible entrant to the Your AI Horizons Challenge must either be:

  • An Eligible Recipient under the Perkins Act.
    • The term Eligible Recipient means: a local educational agency (including a public charter school that operates as a local educational agency); an area career and technical education school; an educational service agency; an Indian Tribe, Tribal organization, or Tribal educational agency; or a consortium, eligible to receive assistance under section 131;
  • An institution or consortium of institutions eligible to receive assistance under section 132.

Selection Criteria

All eligible submissions will be evaluated by an independent judging panel. Judges will assign up to 5 points for each of five selection criteria (for a total of up to 25 points).

  • AI understanding: The extent to which the submission demonstrates a clear understanding of how and why an AI solution would be effective, as well as implications of the solution, including safety and ethical use.
  • Impact: The extent to which the proposed solution creates a positive impact for a specific career path, employer, or industry.
  • Feasibility: The extent to which the proposed solution presents a realistic approach to incorporating AI, drawing on technology that is already available.
  • Collaboration: The extent to which the submission leverages the broader ecosystem, including employers, postsecondary institutions, community organizations, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
