Deadline: November 10, 2025
Applications are open for the EJN Business & Climate Media Initiative Seed Grants 2025 for Media Outlets in Thailand and Indonesia. EJN is offering seed funding to media outlets in Thailand and Indonesia to support new media programming on business engagement with climate change.
The objective of these grants is to increase the capacity of the media in Thailand and Indonesia to provide innovative and solutions-oriented information on business and private sector engagement with climate change to the public and policymakers. The grants are intended to seed new programs, columns or sections that focus on these issues. Over the grant period, they expect that selected media outlets will each design and pilot a new program, producing at least five stories or episodes as proof of concept.
An expectation of this funding is for activities to continue beyond the lifetime of the project—applicants should outline how work could be incorporated into existing programming in the future.
EJN is looking to support media programming ideas that provide information on:
- Climate financing and carbon trading as solutions to climate change;
- Climate action as an opportunity for innovation and growth, such as renewable energy projects, circular economy and green tech;
- Exposing greenwashing in the private sector;
- Enforcement of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks and their role in climate action
- Innovations and challenges facing different industries due to climate change – such as the food and agriculture, transportation, construction and energy sectors.
Grant
- They anticipate supporting four organizations with grants of up to 8,000 euros each.
- Selected media organizations will receive additional assistance from a senior journalist and/or a subject-matter expert to strengthen their capacity during the grant period.
Eligibility
- Media outlets in Thailand or Indonesia—including newspapers, online media, radio, television, multimedia platforms, and social media channels—are invited to apply.
- Applications must propose one new media programming idea on the themes outlined above and include the production of at least five episodes or stories.
- For the purposes of this funding opportunity, they will be accepting applications in English, Thai and Bahasa Indonesia. Unfortunately, they do not have the capacity to consider applications in other languages at this time. Applicants must either have a working understanding of English or have a translator available to assist with communication with Internews staff. However, applicants may produce stories in any language.
- Applicants are required to be transparent about the use of generative AI tools, if any, in the development of their proposals. EJN reserves the right to disqualify applicants from consideration if they have been found to have engaged in unethical or improper professional conduct, including, but not limited to, plagiarism and submitting AI-generated content as their own.
Judging Criteria
Applications will be evaluated using the following assessment criteria:
- The overall quality of the proposal;
- The relevance of the proposed project in contributing to the objectives and priorities of this grant program;
- The potential impact of the proposed project, including the quality and effectiveness of the project design;
- The innovative characteristics of the proposed activities;
- The financial viability and cost-effectiveness of the proposed activity;
- Sustainability of the activities after the supported work has completed;
- The ability of the applicant to carry it out.
