IJSC Feminist Investigative Journalism Scholarships for MA Students 2026

Deadline: May 31, 2026

Are you an emerging or aspiring feminist investigative journalist? Would you like to work on practical and impactful cross-border investigative journalism projects while you earn an MA in Global Data Journalism (Online) degree from SOAS, University of London? Apply for the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC) Feminist Investigative Journalism Scholarships for MA Students 2026.

The SOAS MA Global Data Journalism (Online) is developed and delivered in partnership with the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC), which brings together journalists, activists and researchers for impactful collaborations in service of social justice, including gender justice.

These scholarships are specifically for students who will study remotely, from wherever they are based, and are passionate about investigative journalism that is also informed by their lived experiences. Individuals from communities historically underrepresented in the media, including women and LGBTQI people in the Global South, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Benefits

In addition to covering full tuition fees (value: £12,000), scholarship recipients will also have opportunities to:

  • Participate in IJSC networking and training events;
  • Receive mentorship and career advice from IJSC associates/advisors; and
  • Work on practical projects for publication. Previous IJSC investigations have been covered across the global media – including Al Jazeera, The Guardian, and Mail & Guardian – and have led to real-world impact. In 2023, Norway, Denmark and Sweden swiftly changed funding practices after IJSC revealed their support, via an intermediary, for anti-LGBT groups in Uganda (against the donors’ rights commitments).

Eligibility

  • Applicant should have a minimum of 2:2 UK undergraduate degree/international equivalent.
  • Scholarship applicants will have to separately apply and gain acceptance to the SOAS MA. Scholarship awards will be contingent on gaining entry to the programme.

Application

To apply, complete the online application form, which will ask you to paste in your CV and answer three questions (300-400 words each), telling them:

  • how this scholarship would help you to apply your lived experience to impactful journalism
  • your specific interest in investigative and data journalism for gender justice, and
  • an example of a story that you think could have been told better with a feminist approach (and why).
