UBA National Essay Competition 2026 (₦15 million prize)

Applications are open for the UBA National Essay Competition 2026. The National Essay Competition, targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organised annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative which aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

Essay Topic: No Nation Can Develop Without Food Security. How Can Nigeria Deal With This Problem?

Prizes

  • 1st Prize – ₦15 million
  • 2nd Prize – ₦10 million
  • 3rd Prize – ₦7.5 million  
  • 4th Prize – ₦5 million 
  • 5th Prize – ₦3.5 million  

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student.
  • Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed).
  • Upload a recent passport photograph.
  • Upload a scanned copy of Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport.

Application

  • All incomplete and/or duplicate entries will be disqualified.
  • Ensure your full name is written on your handwritten essay before uploading.
  • The title of the attachments should be the applicant’s name and the name of the document being attached e.g (John Doe – Passport Photograph or John Doe – Birth Certificate or John Doe – Essay)
