Deadline: November 27, 2026

Applications are open for the Institute for Policy Integrity Economic Fellowship 2027. The Institute for Policy Integrity is seeking applicants for one or two full-time two-year postdoctoral research fellowships in economics, starting in September 2027.

Housed at the New York University School of Law, Policy Integrity is a non-partisan think tank dedicated to improving the quality of government decision making. The principal focus is U.S. energy and environmental policy, with a particular emphasis on climate change. They produce original scholarly research in the fields of economics, law, and regulatory policy. They also advocate for reform before courts and government agencies.

Responsibilities

Fellows will focus primarily on comments in regulatory proceedings and policy and academic research related to environmental policy, energy policy, and natural resources management, but will also be free to work on issues related to benefit-cost analysis more generally. Fellows may be assigned to projects across a range of substantive areas or may be tasked to specialize in a key area depending on the economist’s experience and Policy Integrity’s priorities.

Fellows will work with Policy Integrity’s directors, attorneys, and fellows to prepare:

  • Policy reports
  • Comments in regulatory proceedings
  • Journal articles

Benefits

  • In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range is $88,000–$104,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
  • NYU offers an excellent, comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off and retirement contributions.
  • Partial relocation assistance (exact amount based on distance) will be provided. Policy Integrity staff members also have access to academic enrichment opportunities at NYU School of Law, including some faculty workshops, colloquia, and other scholarly forums.

Eligibility

  • A commitment to advancing the mission of Policy Integrity;
  • Ph.D. in economics or a related field by Summer 2027;
  • 0-3 years post-doc work experience;
  • Specialized knowledge in environmental or resource economics, transportation and electric vehicle policy, or energy economics/policy;
  • Excellent R or Python programming skills; experience in machine learning and AI applications is encouraged;
  • Experience working with data;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.

Application

Interested applicants should send:

  • a cover letter detailing your interest in the position and your relevant experience,
  • a C.V.,
  • job market paper,
  • transcripts,
  • a brief statement (less than one page) on how your background or experiences would enhance the diversity, inclusivity, and perspectives of Policy Integrity, and
  • three letters of reference

All materials should be submitted through JOE. All materials must be submitted by the end of business day on November 27th, 2026. Send questions to [email protected] with “Economic Fellow” in the subject line.
