Pan-African Awards for Entrepreneurship in Education 2017

Is your education or training project based in Africa? Does your organisation actively demonstrate the success of their entrepreneurial approach to education? Is your education project innovative and inspiring? Does your organisation have a large network of young people? Can you show that your project has had a positive impact on young people and your community? If you answered “yes” to these questions your organisation could be in with a chance of winning a Pan African Award for Entrepreneurship in Education.

The Pan-African Awards reward the very best projects which are using enterprise and entrepreneurship to innovate in the field of education. The awards are generously supported by The Saville Foundation, a charitable foundation based in South Africa. Teach A Man To Fish manage the awards using their expertise in enterprise edu.cation and highlight inspirational models and projects through their large network of educational organisations and schools.

What is Entrepreneurship in Education?

Entrepreneurial approaches to education can mean:

  • Teaching entrepreneurial and workplace skills to young people AND/OR,
  • Using alternative and innovative methods to fund education.

  • First prize of $15,000, 2nd and 3rd prizes of $5,000;

  • Enhanced sponsorship and donation opportunities;
  • A chance to win our ‘partner prize’ to work with Teach A Man To Fish and the School Enterprise Challenge.

Eligibility

  • Open to all organizations with a focus on education located in one of the 55 African countries for which awards are available. The full list of African countries for which awards are available is as follows: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Democratic Republic of the), Congo Brazzaville (also known as Republic of the Congo), Côte d’Ivoire (commonly known as Ivory Coast), Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia, Zimbabwe
  • Entries can be submitted on behalf of another organization e.g. by non-African NGOs on behalf of their local partner / office – however prize monies and conference travel bursaries must be claimed by and used for the benefit of, the Africa-based organization itself;
  • All entries must be accompanied by work contact details of a suitable referee who is able to confirm that the contents of the entry are a true and accurate representation of the entrant’s work;
  • Referees must be i) independent of your organisation and ii) either a government official, qualified professional, or senior employee of an internationally recognized institution;
  • Qualified professionals for the purpose of this competition include: teachers (employed by a different institution), doctors, lawyers, judges, accountants, bankers, engineers, and police officers;
  • Referees cannot include family members of the entrant.

Application Tips

  • Make your passion for education and entrepreneurship shine through;
  • Tell them what makes your project special, different and innovative;
  • Focus on impact. They want to see that what you are doing really works;
  • Bring your application to life with examples – they want to hear about the great changes you are making in your community!
