Deadline: December 31, 2013

The Youth Employment Network (YEN) and Making Cents International have partnered to create the What’s Working? competition to find out what strategies and approaches are working and share them among the youth employment community. Three rounds of the competition will be held leading up to Making Cent’s Global Youth Opportunities Conference in September 2013 where the winning Smart Notes will be published. The theme of the conference will be Linking Youth to Rural Markets.

The What’s Working? competition highlights success stories. Organizations who have had positive results from their youth employment projects can submit an entry form about their project, including why they think it worked and what lessons they learned. The winners are selected through online voting, comments, and a judges panel.

Prizes

The winning projects will have their Smart Note published on the YEN Marketplace website and there will also be a monetary award for the top three. The prizes are $800 for first place, $500 for second place, and $300 for third place. There may also award Special Mentions to projects that did not win, but showed exceptional merit.

Submission Guideline

The overarching focus of the competition is on rural youth and increasing opportunities in rural areas. The competition entry should highlight a specific approach that has had significant impact on the labour outcomes of young people. Applications must fit into one of the following categories:

  • Workforce Development
  • Financial Services and Capabilities
  • Enterprise Development
  • Adolescent Girls and Young Women
  • Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact Assessment

Eligibility

The project described in the Smart Note must be targeted at young people
The applicant must be personally involved in the project and have the consent of the project manager
The competition is open to all countries

YEN and Making Cents International reserve the right to to verify the authenticity of the project before awarding a prize.
