Orange Knowledge Fund Scholarships to study at KIT Royal Tropical Institute 2018

Applications are open for the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) Scholarships for study at KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. The OKP is a 5-year programme aims to advance the capacity, knowledge and quality of both individuals and institutions of higher and vocational education.

Are you looking for financial support to study a Master’s degree or an advanced course in public or global health in 2018? Apply now for scholarships available from the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP), former Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP), to study a large number of courses at KIT. KIT offers an inspiring environment to get updated on the newest developments in Public Health and exchange experiences with a group of like-minded global health professionals.

Award

OKP fellowships, which are granted for the duration of the master’s programme, cover tuition fees plus the costs of international travel, subsistence, books and health insurance.

  • Nuffic decides how many fellowships will be available and awards a grant to KIT to cover the fellowship holders’ costs.
  • KIT pays each fellowship holder a monthly allowance for the duration of the master’s programme.

Programmes

For the following programmes there are scholarships available from the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP).

  • Master of Public Health / International Course in Health Development
    Course dates: 17 September 2018 – 6 September 2019
    This annual 12-month programme is organised by KIT Royal Tropical Institute and the VU Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Participants can choose from the following study tracks:

    • MPH – Track in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
    • MPH – Track in Health Systems Policy and Management
    • NEW: MPH – Track in Health Systems and Fragile and Conflict-affected Environments
      Apply for academic admission first.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation in a dynamic health environment (M&E)
    Course dates: 20 – 31 August 2018
    This course will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the role that M&E plays in all aspects of the health system, and with a broad range of tools and methods to be used in the health sector in developing countries.
  • Analysing Disrupted Health Systems in Countries in Crisis
    Course dates: 20 – 31 August 2018
    This course focuses on the analysis of health systems in countries affected by, or recovering from, protracted crisis. It is organised jointly with the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Save the Children, and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Eligibility

Open to health professional from one of the 51 eligible OKP countries below.

Applicants for the OKP fellowship for a KIT master’s program must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been admitted to the course of your choice. This means that you meet all the requirements set out by Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) / Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA)
  • Be nationals of and working and living in a country on the OKP Country list. See the list below.
  • Accept the OKP rules and regulations
  • Upload in ATLAS all mandatory documents. (see previous tab information)
  • Not to be employed by a multinational corporation, UN organisation, IMF, a bilateral or multilateral dondor organisation or a large natonal and/or commercial organisation
  • Be employed in an area to which the study will make a relevant contribution

If you apply for an OKP short courses fellowship, you must:

  • Not have accepted more than one OKP/NFP short course fellowship in the past;
  • Not have accepted an OKP/NFP short course fellowship in the year prior to the fellowship application.
  • If you apply for an OKP master’s degree programme fellowship, you must not have accepted
  • An OKP/NFP master’s degree programme fellowship in the past.
  • Please note that only 1 OKP application in ATLAS should be made per application round.
  • Have a valid passport which is valid at the moment of application for the OKP scholarship until at least 3 months after the course has started (or preferably longer).

Admission Requirements

KIT assesses the application and decides whether or not the applicant’s educational background and other experience meet programme requirements:

  • KIT will inform applicants of its decision within 1 month of receiving the application.
  • Successful candidates receive a letter indicating that they have been conditionally admitted providing they have suitable funding.
  • Candidates are eligible for a OKP fellowship only if they have been admitted to the the course and comply with all the fellowship criteria.

Eligible Countries

Afghanistan, Mozambique, Albania, Myanmar, Armenia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, Benin, Nigeria, Bhutan, Pakistan, Bolivia, Palestinian Territories, Burkina Faso Peru, Burundi, Philippines, Cambodia, Rwanda, Colombia, Senegal, Congo (DRC), Sierra Leone, Cuba, Somalia, Egypt, South Africa, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Georgia, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Sudan, Guatemala, Surinam, India, Tanzania, Indonesia, Thailand, Jordan, Uganda, Kenya, Vietnam, Lebanon, Yemen, Liberia, Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, Macedonia.

Deadlines:

  • Deadline KIT Royal Tropical Institute for academic admission (if applying for OKP): 26 February 2018. You are advised to start the course application procedure as early as possible.
  • Deadline OKP registration via Atlas: 26 March 2018.

Application

OKP uses a two-step application procedure:

  • Applicants must request academic admission directly from KIT (via the KIT online application system, follow the link in each specific course page).
  • Applicants who have applied for a course for which OKP scholarships are available and have been accepted, will receive an e-mail from KIT with the correct link to ATLAS, the application system for OKP.
  • Applicants have to apply separately for the OKP scholarship via: ATLAS (the OKP online application system).
  • The registration period opens approx. 6 weeks before the application deadline. Check the application deadline for each course in the course description.
