Calliing Kenyan social enterprises and nonprofits! Apply to become an ActionAid SDG-Ambassador. ActionAid Kenya supports social enterprises and nonprofits’ positive impact on the Sustainable Development Goals 5 & 8 (SDG). Finalists get access to financial resources.

ActionAid is co-creating a vibrant network of social entrepreneurs who create decent jobs for young people and empower women living in poverty and exclusion in Kenya. They do this by pushing the social entrepreneurship agenda forward with help from leading social enterprises, nonprofits, our knowledge partners and policy makers.

SDG-Ambassadors is a network that seeks to scale organizations’ positive impact on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). In 2018, the network supports Kenyan social enterprises with proven business models and nonprofits that bring innovative and scalable solutions to challenges related to gender equalityand youth unemployment in Kenya.

Benefits

  • 18 finalists will be selected to pitch their proven solutions to our panel of judges, who select 6 SDG-Ambassadors
  • Each of the 6 SDG-Ambassadors receive a 500,000 KES Investment Grant and a Customized Mentorship Program worth 350,000 KES

Eligibility

Sustainability

  • The organization has a thorough financial strategy, a proven business model and can clarify how to use the investment grant of 500,000 KES
  • The organization has a complimentary, problem solving and creative team dynamic
  • The organization has a positive track record of creating sustainable social change
Impact
  • The organization’s new solution has the potential to significantly change the field of operation and trigger nationwide impact on youth unemployment and/or gender equality
  • The organization is able to build trust and inspire all stakeholders and thereby lead social transformation in the communities they work
  • The organization accepts to raise awareness about their new solution through media, advocacy and campaigning with support from the SDG-Ambassador Network
Scalability

The organization has clarified how their new and proven solution is scalable across Africa

Other Criteria

  • Develop and implement a Sexual Harassment Policy for your organization if not already existing
  • The organization must be a legal registered Kenyan nonprofit or business
  • The applicant is impact driven as opposed to profit driven
  • The organization creates impact on The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 5 (Gender Equality) and/or 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)
  • The applicant accepts to become an ambassador of SDG 5 and/or 8 through the SDG-Ambassador Network
  • The applicant is between 18 and 32 years old

Application

  • Eligible nonprofits and social enterprises submit their proven solutions to challenges related to gender equality and youth unemployment in Kenya
  • 18 finalists will be selected to pitch their proven solutions to our panel of judges, who select 6 SDG-Ambassadors
  • Each of the 6 SDG-Ambassadors receive a 500,000 KES Investment Grant and a Customized Mentorship Program worth 350,000 KES
