Deadline: October 4, 2014

Registration is now open for the German Marshall Fund (GMF) Brussels Forum Young Writers Award 2015. To cultivate dialogue among young leaders across the Atlantic, GMF, with the kind support of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched the Brussels Forum Young Writers Award for outstanding and original writing on the future of the transatlantic relationship.

The prize is open to all North American and European students and young professionals under the age of 33. The competition is an opportunity to demonstrate innovative thinking on issues that shape tomorrow’s transatlantic agenda.

Topic

Essays will address the topic:“The evolution of transatlantic cooperation: setting priorities for the future.” The prompt is intentionally broad to allow for a diverse range of responses related to pressing issues in the transatlantic relationship such as security or defense issues, human rights, new emerging powers, economic policy, legal affairs, etc.

Prizes

The Award is presented to a team consisting of one North American and one European who have co-written a single paper.

The winning pair will be invited to present their work at Brussels Forum 2015, GMF’s annual flagship event for high-level leaders in the field of politics, business and ideas. All travel and accommodation costs will be covered.

In addition, each writer will receive a €2,500 award. The German Marshall Fund will also publish the successful entry.

Eligibility

  • The competition will be open to students and young professionals under the age of 33 who will be responsible for finding their respective co-authors.
  • The Award will be presented to a team consisting of one North-American and one European who have co-written a single paper addressing a topic relevant to the transatlantic relationship.
  • Entries for the Brussels Forum Young Writers Award should be submitted by teams consisting of one North-American and one European whose citizenship will be verified by the submission of ID/passport information at the time of registration.
