SAWISE Scholarships for Sub-Saharan and South African Female Students

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE) and The Hope Network invites scholarship applications from female students who are currently in their 4th year [e.g. BSc (Honours) or equivalent] of study at tertiary level. Scholarship duration is of one year, full-time study and the value is R10 000.

Two SAWISE scholarships are available.

  • SAWISE Angus Scholarship (Download scholarship information pack)
  • SAWISE Hope Scholarship (Download scholarship information pack)

Eligibility for SAWISE Angus Scholarship

  • A sub-Saharan black female.
  • Must have achieved 70% or above grade average in her subject of study.
  • Only for studies at Honours level (or 4th year equivalent e.g. in engineering).
  • In any field of science and engineering.

Eligibility for SAWISE Hope Scholarship

  • A South African female student.
  • Must have achieved an academic average of over 65%.
  • Only for studies at Honours level (or 4th year equivalent e.g. in engineering).
  • In any field of science and engineering. Medical fields are also included.
  • Candidates must exhibit outstanding personal qualities and a strong desire to make a contribution to their respective fields and to society at large.
  • Must be studying at one of following institutions: University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of Pretoria, University of Stellenbosch, University of the Witwatersrand, and University of the Western Cape.

Documents Required

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • An official academic transcript (record). 
  • A letter of motivation (~350 words).
  • A certified copy of your ID.
