Deadline: December 1, 2014

Airbus is challenging students from across the world to develop innovative ideas for a sustainable aviation industry, through the Fly Your Ideas 2015. Fly Your Ideas is open to students of any nationality or discipline – from engineering to marketing; science to design – enabling them to develop skills for a wide range of future careers.

Fly Your Ideas is a biennial contest, supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which provides a unique opportunity for students to work together in diverse teams to stretch their imaginations and consider how to reinvent the norms associated with air travel. The competition enables students to put their classroom learning and research to the test, working on real-world challenges to explore ground-breaking new concepts and solutions.

This contest offers students an exceptional learning opportunity by working with a team of aviation professionals to apply their creativity for a chance of winning €30,000 and a week behind the scenes at Airbus.

Fly Your Ideas Challenges

Students are invited to propose ideas that correspond to six key challenges for aviation in the 21st Century.

  • Energy
  • Efficiency
  • Affordable Growth
  • Traffic Growth
  • Passenger Experience
  • Community Friendliness

Competition Details and Benefits

The competition involves three increasingly competitive rounds leading to the final. Finalists are selected to present their project to Airbus and industry experts during a live finale – with the top team winning €30,000, and €15,000 going to the runner-up.

  • Winning team to receive €30,000.
  • Runner-up team to receive €15,000.
  • Each team prize should be equally divided between correctly registered team members.
  • Each team and /or team member will be wholly responsible for the payment of any tax, contribution or amount of any kind due (if any) in respect of the award of a prize under the Competition.

The teams, composed of 3-5 students each, are supported by an academic mentor from one of the team member’s institutions for the first round, for the first round, in which they pitch their innovative idea addressing key challenges for aviation.

No more than 100 teams are selected for the second round, where each team is assigned an Airbus mentor from volunteers across the company and an Airbus expert to provide support as they develop their ideas into a detailed project. Five teams are then chosen for Round 3 with these finalists delivering a presentation during a live final, which is judged by a panel of Airbus and industry experts.

Eligibility

  • Fly Your Ideas is open to students of any nationality or discipline – from engineering, marketing and business to science, philosophy or design – currently studying full-time or part-time for a first degree, a Masters or PHD-level qualification at a recognized degree-awarding institution.
  • To qualify, each participant must be a registered student at their stated University or academic institution.
  • Participants who are a family member of an Airbus or EADS employee are allowed to enter the competition, but will be required to state any such relationship at the time of registration.
  • Employees of Airbus, Airbus Group, or their agents are not allowed to enter the Competition.
  • Students currently involved in an internship, apprenticeship or summer placement with Airbus/Airbus Group are not eligible to take part in the Competition unless their contract ends before the end of the competition registration period and they notify the Promoter by email at [email protected].
  • Students who start working for Airbus/Airbus Group while participating in the Competition must withdraw from the Competition.

Team Composition

  • Each team must comprise between 3 (minimum) and 5 (maximum) team members.
  • In exceptional circumstances, where students are already working on a similar project as part of their university curriculum, the Promoter will allow teams with more than 5 team members to enter the Competition. In these cases, teams must communicate this to the Promoter by sending an email with additional team members‟ names to [email protected].
  • Each team should ideally comprise a diverse range of students from different disciplines, such as engineering, business, finance, science and may ideally alsohave a mix of men and women, though this is not essential.
  • Each team must appoint a Team Leader.
  • The Team Leader will be the main contact point for the Promoter, and emails sent to the email address provided by the Team Leader will be considered delivered.
  • Once a team has been registered, no modification in its composition will be allowed after the registration deadline in November 2014, unless for specific reasons outlined below.
  • In the event that the number of members in a team is reduced to fewer than 3, the team shall be disqualified.

How to Register

  • Students (hereinafter referred to as the “Participants”) wishing to participate must register in teams of between 3-5 Participants.
  • Individual students are only allowed to register as a team and under one team name. Students registering for more than one team will be disqualified. All individual members of the teams must have a valid e-mail address.
  • Participants/teams will have no recourse against disqualification decisions.
  • All teams must be registered by November 24, 2014.
