Deadline: September 30, 2017

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is inviting applications for its Photography contest on the theme “Literacy in a Digital World”. Digital technologies, including the Internet, mobile phones, and all the other tools to manage information digitally, are fundamentally changing the way we live, learn and socialize. For many, digital technologies provide better access to information and knowledge, previously out of reach or costly, while facilitating the use of obtained information and knowledge.

This year, Literacy Day’s theme will examine and highlight what kind of literacy skills people need to navigate increasingly digitally mediated societies, and to explore effective literacy policies and programmes that can leverage the opportunities that the digital world provides.

Prize

Three winners will be selected and awarded with cash prizes as below:

  • 1st Prize: NPR 10,000 + Certificate
  • 2nd Prize: NPR 5,000 + Certificate
  • 3rd Prize: NPR 2,500 + Certificate

Eligibility

  • The contest is open to all Nepali citizens;
  • While submitting, make sure you submit your original uncompressed photograph;
  • Photographs must be in digital format. All digital files must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must have at least 2560 x 1920 pixels resolution (5 megapixel) – at least 2560 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 2560 pixels tall (if a vertical image);
  • Only minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable, as is cropping. High dynamic range images (HDR) and stitched panoramas are NOT acceptable. Any changes to the original Photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the photograph ineligible for a prize.

Judging Criteria

  • The UNESCO panel judges the photographs and the decision will be based on the relevance to the theme (“Literacy in a Digital World ”) and creativity.

Application

  • Only online entries will be eligible. The photograph should be submitted via the online portal;
  • Registration form with inaccurate information will be disqualified;
  • The entrants are required to sign the Grant of Rights with UNESCO. The Grant of Rights (Form AM 13-9) needs to be downloaded, printed, filled-up (handwritten), signed, scanned and then uploaded during the submission.
