Deadline: September 6, 2017

Interesting opportunity to apply to be regional focal point position of the UN MGCY Habitat III Working group. The vision of the UNMGCY is the advanced participation of young people at all levels of governance: locally, nationally, regionally and globally. The UN MGCY seeks to promote the positions of children and youth in policy processes around a number of areas, especially in the protection of the environment, sustainable development, and the promotion of economic and social development.

The mission of the UN Major Group for Children and Youth is to ensure that the interests of children and youth are taken into account in planning and decision making processes, and that youth in particular participate meaningfully.

Mission of the UN MGCY Habitat III Working Group:

The mission of the UN MGCY Habitat III Working Group is to facilitate the representation and participation of children and youth in the process during, leading up to, and after the Habitat III conference. The Habitat III Working Group aims to ensure that the interests and input of children and youth are taken into account while designing and implementing the ‘New Urban Agenda’.

Mission for the UN MGCY Habitat III Regional Focal Points:

The mission of the UN MGCY Habitat III Regional Focal Points is to facilitate and coordinate the children and youth engagement in the Habitat III process for their respective regions. The importance of this position can not be understated as it will allow for the necessary outreach work to be competently carried out, while ensuring the prioritization of challenges to sustainable urbanisation specific to the regions.

Eligibility

  • Be a member of a youth led or youth serving organization engaged in sustainable urban development
  • Be based in Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, or the Pacific Region

Application

Complete the online application here.

***Additionally, a new UN MGCY policy & processes (PP) document has recently been adopted and part of the changes are applicable to individual UN MGCY members who want to apply for a formal position within UN MGCY. The changes to the PP include an extra requirement to run for formal positions—to be eligible to apply, you have to be a formal representative of an organization or an individual endorsed by CYI.

If you are the latter, select ‘individual’ on the RFP application form and, once applications close, the Board of CYI will review the list of candidates and all individual applicants will receive an email indicating whether they have been approved or denied.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].
