The Science for Africa Foundation (SFA Foundation) is launching the Africa Science Journalism Awards (ASJA) to recognize and honor outstanding health, science, and development reporting in Africa. 3. Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism
The European Parliament is inviting submissions for the Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism, which recognizes outstanding journalism that upholds the core principles of the European Union. Named after the late Maltese journalist who was tragically killed in 2017, the prize honors work that promotes human rights, freedom, democracy, equality, and the rule of law. 4. Qarib Journalism Awards 2023
The Qarib Journalism Awards are now accepting nominations, aiming to recognize and promote journalism that highlights underrepresented voices and topics. This includes challenging stereotypes about the role of female journalists. 5. AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards 2023
This award offers recognition for outstanding science journalism across various categories. The categories include Science Reporting for large and small outlets, with word limits of 5,000 words or less. In-Depth Science Reporting allows entries exceeding 5,000 words, which can be a single story, a series, or related/unrelated pieces. The Magazine category considers stories from print or digital magazines, with a word limit of 5,000 words. Video entries include In-Depth Reporting for segments longer than 20 minutes and Spot News/Feature Reporting for segments totaling 20 minutes or less. 9. EU Investigative Journalism Award 2023
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) has announced an open call for the EU Investigative Journalism Award 2023. The award aims to recognize and promote exceptional achievements in investigative journalism while enhancing the visibility of quality journalism in the Western Balkans and Türkiye. In addition to national awards, a new regional award category has been introduced to encourage journalists to address issues that transcend national borders. Nominated stories should contribute to freedom of expression, the rule of law, and transparency. They should cover various topics such as organized crime, corruption, extremism, foreign influence, human rights violations (including digital rights), and other lesser-known subjects that impact the region.

While open to all photojournalists, preference will be given to those working within their own local communities. Three recipients will receive $3,000 in grants to support their visual reporting projects. 12. Norbert Zongo African Prize opens to African investigative journalists
The Norbert Zongo National Press Center (CNP-NZ) and the Norbert Zongo Cell for Investigative Journalism in West Africa (CENOZO) have announced a call for applications for the PAJI-NZ. This award recognizes African investigative journalists who have conducted high-quality investigations on topics such as corruption, organized crime, human rights violations, governance, environmental crimes, and terrorism. Eligible entries must have been published between May 3, 2021, and May 3, 2023. Candidates for the award should be African journalists employed by or collaborating with press organizations, or non-African journalists residing in Africa and working on African issues for at least two years prior to application.
