Applications are open for the fifth cycle of the Climate Journalism Mentorship Program 2023/2024 for Latin America & the Caribbean. During this cycle, they will welcome a cohort of eight journalists from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela to publish stories about the impact of the climate crisis in the region, with a focus on the just energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Those selected will receive a financial incentive for each story and mentoring from the Climate Tracker team of mentors, while they work on group trainings to strengthen their knowledge. They will challenge you to tell stories that deserve to be read and experiment with different media techniques, formats, and platforms.
Program Details
The Mentorship Program is a training program, where participants are challenged to produce three high-value stories about energy transition in Latin America. As is tradition, the works will focus on the just energy transition in the region, addressing issues related to fossil fuels and renewable energies, through public policies, lobbying, energy projects, finance, socio-environmental conflicts, among other aspects.
They will do this while receiving personalized editorial support from the Climate Tracker team, as well as economic incentives, mentoring from leaders in the region and contact with other journalists. The program will run between December 2023 and February 2024.

- Total financial incentive of $750 ($250 for each story published).

Eligibility
- Open to journalists from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela who want to tell stories about the energy transition in the region.
- Journalists who work in the media and/or independently can apply.
Ideal candidates will have:
- At least one year of journalism experience.
- Proven interest in environmental and climate issues.
- A great proposal for a journalistic story to tell.
- Curiosity and engagement: This is a learning experience we hope you’ll get the most out of.
