Deadline: February 4, 2025

Applications are open for the Carlo Schmid Programme for Internships in International Organisations & EU Institutions 2025. The Carlo Schmid Program, which was launched in 2001, familiarizes outstanding students and graduates with the problems and working methods in the field of international administration within the framework of an internship and contributes to the expansion of their intercultural competence. In addition, accompanying activities are intended to further improve the prerequisites and opportunities of these young people for later employment in the international field of activity.

The Carlo Schmid Programme is implemented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the German National Academic Foundation and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Tönissteiner Kreis participates in the support of the scholarship holders with a mentoring program. The internships are accompanied by introductory and summer seminars as well as the activities of the Alumni Association.

Scholarship

The scholarship includes the following benefits:

  • a monthly scholarship rate fixed according to the host country: Stipendienrechner (in this program, the rates apply to doctoral students). The monthly scholarship instalments are made up of a basic amount and an international contribution differentiated by country or region. The scholarship rates are subject to reservation for scholarships awarded for funding in the academic year 2025/2026.
  • Travel allowance depending on the host country.
  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits.

In addition, you can apply for further benefits after the start of funding:

  • Family benefits for accompanying spouses or partners and/or children

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be at least in the third semester of a Bachelor’s or Examen’s degree program.
  • For applicants who have completed their studies and have already passed the state examination, the examination must not have been taken more than two years ago (periods of basic military or civilian service or child-rearing are taken into account).
  • A very good grade point average is expected. The average grade of the most recently taken examination (e.g. intermediate examination, bachelor’s/master’s degree, exam) or the semester performance completed so far must not be worse than 2.5 (for law courses: not worse than “satisfactory”). If the exam was taken abroad, the grade should correspond to the above-mentioned classifications.
  • For medical students, the first section of the medical examination must be passed.
  • Excellent English language skills must correspond to competence level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and must be proven by a format mentioned in the Important Information on the CSP.
  • Proof of other language skills is optional, unless the respective international organization requires knowledge of other languages in the job description.
  • Please note the additional application conditions of the respective position.
  • The degree determined by the organisation must be submitted to the DAAD at least 2 weeks before the start of the internship.
