Applications are open for the WECF Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards 2026. This initiative is led by the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) and Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF) with the financial support of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and the European Union in the framework of Women Power 2030.
Now in its 11th edition, this international award recognises innovative, inclusive and impactful approaches to tackling climate change. It highlights practical initiatives that place gender equality and women’s rights at the heart of climate action.
Categories
The award has three categories:
- Technical Climate Solutions: Gender-responsive solutions in sectors such as water, renewable energy, food production, digitalization, and waste reduction.
- Non-Technical Climate Solutions: Projects promoting behavioural change, mutual learning, and capacity-building with a gender-responsive lens.
- Transformative Climate Initiatives: Efforts targeting governance and institutional or social change that challenge patriarchal norms.
Prizes
Three winning projects will each receive:
- A €5,000 cash prize;
- Fully funded travel for one representative per project to attend the award ceremony at COP 31 in Antalya, Turkey, in November 2026.
- Tailored mentorship from members of the Women and Gender Constituency.
Eligibility
They welcome applications from all types of activist, grassroots, and civil society organisations and groups working on gender-just climate action in the Global South.
- Women-led and gender-diverse-led initiatives are especially encouraged to apply. They actively prioritise their leadership in the evaluation process.
- Men, women, and gender-diverse people can apply, as long as the project is genuinely gender-just and inclusive.
- Non-governmental initiatives only (local or national government-led projects are not eligible).
- Projects must have been running for at least one year (ongoing or completed).
- The initiative must fit one of the three award categories.
