Deadline: September 18, 2026

Are you a permanent resident of an ARES partner country? Do you have a graduate degree? Do you have professional experience and would you like to deepen your skills in a development-related theme? Applications are open for the ARES International Training Scholarships 2027-2028.

As part of the five-year programme 2027-2032, ARES is offering a new range of international training courses to follow a one-year bachelor’s or master’s degree or a 6-month continuing education course in an establishment of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium.

Scholarship

The scholarship includes:

  • International travel expenses.
  • Living allowance.
  • Exceptional costs related to visa applications (only for bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees).
  • Registration fees (only for bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees).
  • Indirect assignment costs (only for continuing education).
  • Insurance costs.

Eligibility

The applicant must:

  • Be a permanent resident and work in one of the 32 eligible countries. Exception: people of Palestinian nationality are eligible even if they do not reside in one of these 32 countries.
  • Hold a higher education diploma and meet the admission requirements of the course, the description of which can be found on the ARES website. The applicant must have held the relevant academic degree requested for a maximum of 20 years at the time of the start of the training. This maximum period is increased by one year per delivery and/or adoption.
  • Demonstrate a relevant professional occupation, in one of the 32 eligible countries, at least two years after the last graduate degree and before the closing date of the call.
  • Complete the application in the language in which the training is provided and be able to attest to a good written and spoken knowledge of it. In addition, knowing a minimum of French allows a good integration into daily life in Belgium.
  • Apply for a single course.

Eligible Countries

  • Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
  • South America and the Caribbean: Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Peru.
  • Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam.
  • Asia: Palestine.

Application

Steps to follow to apply:

  • If you already have a GIRAF account created and validated by ARES, use it to log in. If not, complete this account creation request form.
  • Access the application form once logged in to GIRAF, go to “Competitive calls” > click on the “Application – International Training 2027-2028” button (only once).
  • Complete and save the form: Fill in the form fields. Some mandatory fields, marked with an asterisk (*), must be completed before the first registration. You can complete your application in several times by clicking on “Save as draft”.
  • To resume a registered application, go to “Competitive Calls” > “My Tasks”. Select the relevant form, then click “Open”. You can continue to edit it as long as it’s saved as a draft and hasn’t been submitted yet.
  • When your application is complete, click on “Submit my application”. After submission, your file will be available in “Competitive Calls” > “My Submitted Files”.
Please note: once the application has been submitted, it will not be possible to modify it.
