Deadline: September 15, 2026
Applications are open for the University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” Short Term Grants Programme 2026. The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt”, in short “Bayreuth Humboldt Centre” (BHC), promotes excellent research at the University of Bayreuth (UBT) and advances the internationalisation of research and networking with the best universities worldwide. Effective immediately, the BHC is offering Short Term Grants for the year 2026.
They invite the Short Term Grantees to carry out their own research projects in cooperation with a local host at UBT. Prior to submission of the application, applicants are required to identify a host in Bayreuth with whom they aim to carry out their research project. The Short Term Grant programme aims at the direct contact between the researchers themselves, therefore the Administrative Office of the Bayreuth Humboldt Centre cannot and should not be involved in the search for a host at the University of Bayreuth. The research projects shall benefit both the candidate and the host. The local hosts provide their grantees with appropriate office and lab space and an up-to-date infrastructure.
Grants
- Short Term Grants (intended for stays of about 1-3 weeks duration) include the reimbursement of travel expenses between the home institution and Bayreuth as well as accommodation costs in Bayreuth. The costs will be refunded up to a maximum of €3,500. Short Term Grants are available to researchers regardless of their field of research.
Eligibility
- They award Short Term Grants to individuals affiliated with institutions abroad with challenging and innovative research projects of top academic quality through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process.
- Applicants must have a PhD, and it is indispensable that the PhD procedure is fully completed (including PhD diploma).
- The all-important selection criteria are the academic excellence of both the applicant and the cooperative project as well as the potential for networking with the University of Bayreuth beyond the local host.
They view the diversity of awardees as an asset and are expressly committed to the goal of gender equality. Female scholars and anyone who can help make the research profile of the university more diverse are strongly encouraged to apply.
