Deadline: September 4, 2026

Applications are open for the African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) Fellowship 2026 for French Speaking Journalists. French-speaking investigative journalists from African countries can now apply for a scholarship to participate in the 2026 African Conference on Investigative Journalism, which will be held in Nairobi from 10 to 12 November.

The annual African Investigative Journalism Conference has become the largest gathering of African investigative journalists on the continent across its 22-year history. Hosted and organised by the Wits Centre for Journalism, the conference is held over three days late in the year where journalists from Africa and elsewhere gather to network, share ideas and stories, celebrate excellent, groundbreaking work, and learn from one another through a series of lectures, workshops, masterclasses and seminars.

Scholarship

  • The scholarship will cover major travel expenses, including round-trip flights between the country of residence and the conference venue, shuttles, accommodation, conference fees, and meals during the event.

Eligibility

  • Open to journalists from the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles and Togo.
  • Applications from freelance journalists are welcome.
  • You must hold a valid passport (valid for at least six months after the conference dates).
  • Applicants should be aware that selected fellows will be required to produce at least one investigative story (online, print or audiovisual) based on the evidence gathered at the 2026 conference, which must be published no later than three months after the close of the event.
  • Applicants must also provide proof of identity and attach a CV mentioning their published work.

Application

The appliation deadline is September 4, 2026, 5 p.m. (South Africa Time / SAST). The #AIJC2026 edition will be held at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, from November 10 to 12, 2026.
