Science of Life Studies (SOLS) 24/7 Malaysia is currently looking for passionate and motivated individuals from around the globe to take part in Project 100 and make a difference as Community Development Officers! SOLS 24/7 is an award-winning, humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to serve, educate and empower underserved communities in Malaysia.

SOLS 24/7 Malaysia offers a range of volunteering opportunities through Project 100, which aims to bring FREE education to 100 poor communities throughout the country in partnership with Better Malaysia Foundation:

Community Development Officers (Paid Volunteer position)

A Community Development Officer (CDO) is someone who is passionate to help improve the lives of an underprivileged community by empowering them with education and motivation. SOLS 24/7 together with its CDOs work to achieve this objective by mainly providing communities with English, basic computer skills and motivation through Project 100.

  • Duration: 1 year contract
  • Allowance scheme: Paid volunteer position + smart phone + laptop provided
  • Flight expenses to-from Malaysia will be borne by yourself.

  • Immerse in local culture and learn social entrepreneurship as you will be based full-time in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Community development through teaching English, basic computer skills and motivation to poor communities.
  • Organize community projects, manage the centre, network with other NGOs and individuals within the community and engage with others through Social Media platforms.
  • CDOs also organize Community Projects, establish relationships with other NGOs within the community, submit monthly reports & manage expenses and engage with others through Social Media platforms.

Eligibility

  • Passionate about community development and helping the underprivileged
  • With work experience, leadership and management skills
  • Keen to further develop their personal and professional skills by stepping out of their comfort zones and challenging themselves within one year
  • With Bachelor’s Degree academic qualifications

Selection Criteria

  • Clearly spoken English (ideally a native speaker)
  • Proof of Diploma/Degree
  • MS Office Skills
  • Interested to teach the Science of Language system
  • Able to prepare community centre and accounting reports in a comprehensive and timely manner
  • Able to spearhead community development and community awareness activities on a monthly basis
  • Skilled in classroom management, able manage a community centre as well as mentor a volunteer/trainee
  • Able to network and build working relationships with local organization NGOs
  • Able to play the role of community liaison, interacting with parents, schools, key individual, etc.
  • Able to utilize social media to achieve media engagement goals
  • Able to live in local community
  • Suitable for 21 to 60 year olds

Long-term Volunteer

As a long-term volunteer, you will provide long-term supportive role to Community Development Officers

Duration: Minimum 6 months – 1 year
Allowance scheme: Monthly living allowance provided + Food + Accommodation + Internal travel expenses (Flights to Malaysia not included)

Eligibility

  • Passionate about community development and helping the underprivileged
  • Keen to develop their personal and professional skills with the guidance of someone more experienced
  • With a Diploma and lacks work experience

Benefits

  • Gain valuable life skills including teaching, communication skills and basic community development
  • Immerse in local culture and learn from the Community Development Officer who you will be paired with full-time in the community

Short-term Volunteer

As a short-term volunteer, you will provide short-term supportive role to Community Development Officers.

Duration: 10 weeks – 6 months
Allowance scheme: Food + Accommodation + Internal travel expenses provided (Flights to Malaysia not included)

Eligibility

  • Interested or curious about community development and helping the underprivileged
  • Keen to experience Malaysia as a local instead of a tourist during a trip
  • Keen to develop personal skills and have a short-term life-changing experience
