Deadline: July 5, 2013

Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) and Asian Development Alliance (ADA) is now accepting applications for the 1st Glocal (global and local) Advocacy Leadership in Asia Academy (GALA Academy) to be held in Bogor, Indonesia on 25-31 August 2013. This is a week-long training aimed at full time mid- or high-level staff in a national NGO/CSO in South, Southeast and Northeast Asia.

About

The GALA Academy is a new training programme aimed to strengthen advocacy capacity of the mid-level staff in CSOs and thereby facilitating second-tier leadership for strategic “glo-cal (global and local)” actions on key human rights and development issues as well as related regional and international processes. The GALA Academy builds on the experiences and lessons from a variety of capacity building activities that FORUM-ASIA has conducted for the last 20 years, including the Annual Training and Study Sessions for Asian Human Rights Defenders (ATSS), with the view to empower Asian CSOs and defenders to develop knowledge and key skills for their human rights and development work.

Eligibility

This weeklong training is aimed at full time mid- or high-level staff in a national NGO/CSO in South, Southeast and Northeast Asia who:

  • have a minimum 5 years experience in the field of policy and advocacy on human rights or/and development;
  • are committed to work in the same organization at least until the end of 2015;
  • have sufficient knowledge and experiences on national/regional/UN human rights mechanisms and/or MDGs, Post-2015 Development Agenda and preferably, basic knowledge and experiences about GPEDC, Rio+20, G20; and
  • are able to communicate well in English (both spoken and written)
