Google CS4HS Awards for Professional Developers (Funding Available)

Professional Development practitioners are invited to apply for an annual CS4HS award. The Google Computer Science for High School (CS4HS) Program supports the development of students and teachers. They facilitate the development and delivery of professional development to teachers around the world who need additional support and resources to teach computer science and computational thinking.

Teachers are the foundation of excellence in computer science. The world needs well prepared educators to facilitate Computer Science not only because of the growing number of computing related jobs, but also because it develops critical thinking skills needed to solve complex problems, creativity that fosters new ideas, and skills to drive innovation in tech and other fields.

Funding

  • Institutions may receive support between €15,000 to $35,000; depending on the region they operate from.

Eligibility

  • Funding is awarded to applicants from research institutions, universities, school districts and educational nonprofits dedicated to delivering exemplary Computer Science professional development for teachers.

Tips for Successful Application

When crafting your application, make sure your professional development opportunity:

  • contains computer science content.
  • addresses how to improve confidence and competence in teaching computer science.
  • creates new materials that can be brought directly back to the classroom or used elsewhere by anyone (open source).
  • has regional reach with the potential to scale nationally/internationally.
  • provides a hands-on experience and includes activities for participants that are interactive and allows them to manipulate the subject themselves.
  • addresses how you will develop and/or support a Community of Practice.
  • demonstrates a clear breakdown of how the funding will be used throughout the program.
