The Global Innovation Competition invites applications that have a cutting edge idea, to engage citizens and improve government performance. Making All Voices Count is set up to accelerate the number of new innovations, including those that use mobile and web technology, aimed at engaging citizens and incentivizing greater government transparency, efficiency and accountability, while also decreasing corruption.
GIC challenges you to design a solution to close the feedback loop between governments and citizens to further the key goals embodied in the eligibility criteria of the Open Government Partnership (OGP):
- Fiscal Transparency;
- Access to Information;
- Disclosures Related to Elected or Senior Public Officials; and
- Citizen Engagement
Hosted annually, this competition will tackle a different problem each year to address the citizen to government feedback loop to improve government performance. The competition includes a crowdsourcing and peer review process as well as expert mentoring for all finalists upon arrival in Nairobi for the Global Innovation Week in starting on March 31, 2014.
Eligibility
- The Global Innovation Competition is open to individuals and all types of organizations, including companies, civil society organisations, and government agencies from anywhere in the world. However, applicants must demonstrate convincingly how they will implement their idea or proven concept in a Making All Voices Count country.
- The applicant must prove they will implement the idea/proven concept in a Making All Voices Count country. Anyone is welcome to apply, even individuals.
- The Making All Voices Count countries are: Bangladesh, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
Prizes
- 1st winner will be awarded a Global Innovation Grant of £65,000 PLUS expert mentorship for a six-month period;
- 2nd and 3rd runners-up will each receive Global Innovation Grants of £35,000 PLUS expert mentorship for a six-month period;
- 4th – 10th Place winners will each receive £5,000
- 10 finalists will be invited for the Global Innovation Week in Nairobi, Kenya, at the end of March 2014 where the winner will be announced.
On April 3, Making All Voices Count, will host the Global Innovation Gala night where the three winners, selected by the Jury, will be unveiled.
