This is a call for applications for the Interdisciplinary PhD program to foster global scholars for sustainable development. The Hiroshima University is accepting application for the Taoyaka Program, a 5-year PhD program that focused on cultural, social and technological innovations for achieving sustainable solutions in both developed and developing worlds.
The Taoyaka PhD program provides support for research across a variety of fields―arts and humanities, social science, economics, policy, engineering, sociology, science and other related fields―to create a network of exceptional and motivated global scholars interested in developing multidisciplinary approaches to solving issues facing disadvantaged societies and regions. Program participants will receive full-tuition support, housing, and monthly living stipend over the 5-year program length.
Eligibility
- Applicants can have a broad range of academic background but must have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or 16 years of valid school education outside of Japan.
They are looking for the following students:
- Students who want to acquire cross-disciplinary knowledge and techniques to contribute to social development.
- Students who have an interest in the cultures and issues in disadvantaged regions, and have a strong desire to contribute to the development of such regions.
- Students who want to act as leaders active in regions and on the global stage.
- Students equipped with outstanding enthusiasm, ability to take action, sense of responsibility and people skills.
Program enrollment occurs two times per year, in April and October. The application for April 2014 enrollment period is now available online. Interested applicants are highly encouraged to carefully read the goals and features of the program, expectations of applicants, and submit on time all required documentation and files.
