Applications are open for the UNODC Civil Society Unit Training Course 2022. UNODC Civil Society Unit is inviting applications for an online and self-paced course on “Stakeholder Engagement for the Implementation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (SE4U)”
The overall objective of this course is to improve the capacity of civil society organizations, academia and the private sector to contribute to the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its Review Mechanism in accordance with Resolution 9/1 of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and to prepare them for constructive dialogue with government authorities and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
More specifically, the course aims to:
- Equip non-governmental stakeholders with knowledge about the UNTOC and its supplementing Protocols;
- Provide practical information about entry points and tools for engagement of non-governmental stakeholders in the Review Mechanism;
- Stimulate the sharing of experiences, networking and collaborative initiatives addressing organized crime at national, regional and global levels.
Training Format
This is a self-paced (asynchronous) online course. Participants can access study materials and complete assignments anytime during the given period. The course is conducted through the UNODC Global eLearning Platform, a Web-based learning management system in which a password-protected course environment is created for the course. This platform can be accessed from any computer with internet connection. Google Chrome is the recommended internet browser. This online course is held in English.
Benefits
Participants who successfully complete the SE4U course are expected to have the following benefits:
- gain in-depth knowledge about transnational organized crime, UNTOC and the Review Mechanism;
- interact with a dedicated SE4U expert who will moderate the course and will be available for questions;
- learn about entry points and tools for engagement in the implementation of UNTOC and draft an action plan for participation in the UNTOC Review Mechanism;
- be considered for follow-up activities.
Selected SE4U alumni will be invited to join:
- pilot initiatives with their respective governments to discuss the self-assessment stage of the UNTOC Review Mechanism and how to address broader organized crime-related issues in their respective national and/or regional contexts);
- constructive dialogues between non-governmental stakeholders and government focal points that take place in the margins of the UNTOC Working Group meetings;
- WhatsOn – UNODC’s interactive online knowledge hub for stakeholders working to counter organized crime;
Additionally, outstanding SE4U alumni will be featured in the Human Story section on WhatsOn and on UNODC-CSU social media and will thus have a chance to showcase their organizational and individual achievements related to the implementation of UNTOC.
Eligibility
Applicant must
- belong to one of the following groups:
- civil society organizations
- academia and
- the private sector;
- have a vested interest in countering transnational organized crime, addressing at least one of the following topics:
- trafficking in persons
- migrant smuggling
- illicit firearms, and
- emerging crimes (e.g., cybercrime)
Application
The next course will take place only in Arabic, French, and Spanish from 15 March to 30 April 2022.
All interested participants must complete an application form by March 6, 2022.
