Deadline: August 15, 2023

Applications for the UICC Technical Fellowships 2023 are now open. The Technical Fellowships programme and its French sub-programme dedicated to promoting cancer control in Francophone Africa, Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone are supported by a group of international cancer societies, organisations and foundations. This call is specifically for cancer professionals from low and middle-income countries seeking to gain skills and knowledge on cancer control.

The main objectives of this call for applications are to:

  • Facilitate the international exchange and development of technical knowledge and skills in all areas of cancer control.
  • Build capacity of the individual and the home organisation through the effective application and dissemination of the newly acquired skills in the home organisation upon return.
  • Support the development of networks of cancer control professionals for the continued sharing of best practices and knowledge, and the informal provision of ongoing support, guidance or training.

Funding

Duration of Technical fellowship – Maximum level of funding possible:

  • Two weeks – $2,200 USD
  • Three weeks – $2,800 USD
  • Four weeks – $3,400 USD
  • Five weeks – $4,000 USD
  • Six weeks – $4,600 USD
  • Seven weeks – $5,200 USD
  • Eight weeks – $5,800 USD

Eligibility

  • Eligible candidates are cancer professionals resident in low and middle-income countries working in cancer prevention or early detection such as public health investigators, implementation and translational researchers, pathologists, epidemiologists, tobacco control activists and cancer registrars in the early stages of their careers who hold at least an MSc or MA.
  • In addition, clinicians and nurses who are established in oncology practice and hold as a minimum an MD degree (for doctors) or RN (for nurses) are eligible to apply.
  • Medical and PhD Students are not eligible.

Application

Ideally, Technical Fellowship candidates identify and make contact with potential host supervisors themselves. Host institutions do not need to be UICC member organisations, however, in cases where candidates are unable to find a host supervisor, UICC can liaise with UICC members such as HCG Hospitals (India), NCCK (S.Korea) and Icon Group who have expressed an interest in hosting UICC Fellows.
