Top 6 Platforms and Tools to Help You Find a Remote Job

Remote work is now officially here to stay. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, 18% of people in the US have already worked remotely full-time. Even when life goes back to normal, that number will stay high.

Nowadays, you can discover amazing remote job opportunities all over the internet. Here are some of the best platforms and tools for you to find remote working jobs that match your skills. Along with that, you’ll find some bonus tips on how to apply for remote work more effectively.

1. Fiverr

If you have a marketable skill like content writing, web design, or video editing, then you can make some quick cash with Fiverr. Fiverr is a freelance services marketplace. It connects you with prospective clients from around the globe.

Don’t expect a lot of cash. It is more of a short-term solution. Gigs start at $5 (and Fiverr keeps 20%). The key is volume or offering customized additional services.

But it’s free and easy to get started, and you can get paid pretty quickly. Over time, you can build your portfolio of clients to earn more money too.

Other similar freelancing marketplaces include:

  • Upwork
  • Toptal
  • Gigster

2. AngelList

AngelList is a much higher quality job marketplace. Instead of spending hours applying for jobs that you can’t get, you can specify by criteria and browse through posts with ease.

As you go through the list, you only have two options—skip or apply, ensuring you don’t miss anything.

To apply, you send a quick message and your CV with portfolio. In some cases, you might set up a Skype interview. Overall, it’s an excellent tool for finding remote jobs without wasting too much of your precious time.

3. Fancy Hands

If you have administrative skills, then Fancy Hands is for you. It has a wide range of available jobs like:

  • making phone calls
  • verifying product and service prices
  • performing internet research
  • doing data entry

It’s easy to apply, and you can make $3 or more for every task. One unique thing about Fancy Hands is you can get promoted. If you do well on jobs, you can become a manager and be in charge of other virtual assistants.

4. Glassdoor, Indeed, and LinkedIn

When you think of big names in recruiting like Glassdoor and Indeed, traditional office jobs are what comes to mind. But all these significant platforms also have tools for locating remote jobs.

You can change the search criteria to telecommute/remote work full-time or part-time, depending on your preference. If you’re looking for a real job with a salary, benefits, and all other associated perks, then this is the way to go!

5. MeetFrank

MeetFrank isn’t your average job recruiter—it’s a job app that helps you find remote work opportunities around the world. It’s convenient, concise, and often called “Tinder for job hunting” because of how easy it is to find significant connections.

The app works through finding passive opportunities to anonymously matching individuals with companies, protecting their identities in the process. And you can do all this without alerting your current employer that you’re looking for a new job.

6. Virtual Private Network

Since you work remotely, there’s no reason you need to be limited to jobs in your city, state, or even country. Instead, when searching for remote work opportunities, employ a virtual private network (VPN). VPNs change your virtual location, which unlocks different results for different countries.

For example, if you live in Canada, you could use a VPN server in the US to check available jobs in the country. The same goes for any other remote work opportunities out there.

What’s more, VPNs also increase your security in the online world. Every time you apply to a job, you submit a lot of information. For instance, you fill in your address, educational background, date of birth, and other personal details. VPNs ensure that your data stays between you and your prospective employer, and doesn’t fall into the hands of hackers or other threats.

7. Google Alerts

If you have a need, there’s likely already a Google solution for it. Of course, you may already use Gmail for email, Google for search, YouTube for videos, and more. But Google can even help you find a job.

You can set Google Alerts to notify you about potential roles, update your availability, and more. It’s also a great way to research not only a company you want to work for but also your industry and more.

Best Practices for Finding Remote Work

Don’t invest too much time applying to jobs. The best thing you can do is get your CV polished up and build a solid portfolio. You might also want to have a few different cover letters you can personalize for each job.

But don’t waste your time or take things personally if you don’t get a response. Many jobs get hundreds or even thousands of resumes. If they didn’t respond, chances are they may not have yet seen your application.

Finally, be creative. You never know where you’ll find a great opportunity. These apps are super useful, but you can find opportunities everywhere you look online. Keep your eyes open, and you might find the remote job of your dreams!
