Applications are open for the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) Black Journalism Fellowships 2024. The fellowship program aims to amplify Black voices, improve coverage of Black issues in the news and cultivate future Black media leaders. Each fellowship provides a unique opportunity for an early-career Black journalist—with one-to-five years’ experience—to be hosted for six months at a CBC/Radio-Canada (English and French), Globe and Mail or CTV News newsroom or at the IJB at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
The fellowship categories include:
- CJF-Globe and Mail Black Business Journalism Fellowship — NEW
- CJF-IJB Black Investigative Journalism Fellowship
- CJF-CBC/Radio-Canada Black Journalism Fellowship
- CJF-CBC/Radio-Canada Black Women’s Journalism Fellowship
- CJF-CTV News Black Journalism Fellowship
Benefits
Successful applicants will:
- Spend six months hosted with one of the following media partners: CBC/Radio-Canada (English and French), CTV News, The Investigative Journalism Bureau at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, or The Globe and Mail;
- Receive mentoring and training for a variety of skills, including video and audio editing, writing, research and investigative reporting;
- Receive a full-time stipend for the duration of their Fellowship experience;
- Write or produce an article/piece during their fellowship, which will be considered for publication/broadcast.
Eligibility
- The CBC/Radio-Canada CJF/Radio-Canada Black Women’s Journalism Fellowship is open to Black Canadian women.
- Full-time employees of CBC News/Radio-Canada, CTV News or The Globe and Mail are not eligible to apply.
- Casual or contract employees of CBC News/Radio-Canada, CTV News or The Globe and Mail are eligible to apply.
