Deadline: February 10, 2025
The UBC Centre for Migration Studies, in collaboration with University of British Columbia (UBC) Okanagan, invites proposals for the 2025 CMS Research Conference, taking place May 1-2, 2025, at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. This year’s theme is “Migration, Mobilities, and Changing Political Landscapes.”
This third annual conference on new research in migration studies welcomes presentation proposals from CMS affiliates that are faculty, postdoctoral fellows, or current graduate students in the Lower Mainland or at UBC Okanagan. Only academic affiliates are eligible. The conference embodies the shared goals of fostering exchange among migration scholars, building a network across disciplines and career levels, and deepening relationships between the two UBC campuses. Along with panel presentations, the conference will feature a keynote documentary screening with filmmaker discussion, and a roundtable event related to scholarly professional development.
Benefits
- Successful applicants from UBCO will receive $500 for travel support from the UBCO Provost’s Office, and will also be provided 2 nights of on-campus accommodations at the conference.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Currently be employed by or enrolled at UBC Vancouver or UBC Okanagan as a faculty member, postdoctoral fellow, or graduate student.
- Be an affiliate of CMS.
- Submit a short abstract (300 words maximum) of the research you wish to present, which must clearly relate to migration, mobilities, and/or belonging.
Selection Criteria
- Proposals will be selected based on the quality of the submitted abstract, its relevance to the conference theme, and complementarity with other submissions. Submissions will be adjudicated by the content co-leads for the conference (a CMS Co-Director and a UBCO faculty member). Successful applicants will be invited to submit a developed paper (due by April 7, 2025) and present in-person at the conference May 1-2, 2024.
Application
Applications must be made via the online application form, which collects personal information and a PDF upload of your proposal abstract.
