Deadline: February 6, 2026

Applications are open for the Harvard University Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece Fellowship in AI Ethics 2026-2027. The Center for Hellenic Studies offers one fellowship to a postdoctoral researcher from any discipline to conduct original research on topics related to AI Ethics over a period of 12 months (July – June).

This fellowship focuses on examining the ethical, societal, and philosophical implications of artificial intelligence as it continues to evolve and integrate into various aspects of everyday life. This fellowship underscores CHS’s commitment to collaborating with authorities and organizations in Greece and supporting AI Ethics related initiatives in the country and abroad, aiming to strengthen international efforts to develop a common understanding and discussion on relevant issues, as well as highlight the central role that Greece can play in this timely and significant field of research and study.

Benefits

  • The fellowship award includes year-long access to Harvard University’s online databases and resources, a 10-day educational trip to the US, invitations to present and publish the outcomes of the research project and attend meetings, as well as a stipend of $12,000 (USD).
  • The fellow will receive academic support and mentorship during the fellowship appointment by the academic committee of the program.

Eligibility

  • Applicant should have a PhD degree (or its equivalent). Applicants must have defended their degree before December 1, 2025.
  • The fellow must be fluent in English and preferably possess some knowledge of modern Greek. It would be preferable for the fellow to be based in Greece.
  • Applicants may not apply to other CHS fellowship programs during the same application cycle.

Criteria

The CHS will only fund a proposal that:

  • Outlines clearly and in detail how a fellowship through the CHS will enable the proposed research and lead to its completion;
  • Shows how the outcomes of the project will both add to existing knowledge and promote further inquiry and engagement in the fellow’s immediate field and the humanities, social sciences, and other scientific fields in general;
  • Demonstrates the capability of the researcher to achieve the proposed outcomes: for example, through academic achievement, prior publications and educational programs, and letters of support.

Applications from postdoctoral researchers in the early steps of their academic career or in non-tenure-track positions will be prioritized.

Application

As part of the application process, applicants must upload three documents in PDF format:

  • A detailed but brief research proposal in English of no more than 1,000 words. Bibliographies and references do not count toward the word limit.
  • A curriculum vitae in English.
  • A sample of their work in English or Greek of no more than 10,000 words (including bibliography and references).

Additionally, all prospective applicants should provide contact details for two letters of reference.
