Applications are open for the CCCU PhD Scholarship in Education 2026: Education Values and Impact. Broadly, they are looking for a candidate who can contribute to current research in Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) with a proposal that explores how education can create spaces to engage children and young people’s values (civic, political and social) and explore the impact of values across generations, the candidate must demonstrate a recognition of the ways researchers can engage children and young people in research using creative and visual methods.
The school is conducting research on British values in schools, as well as the way values appear across the primary and secondary curriculum in PSHE, Citizenship, RE and beyond, with the role of educational charities and community organisations playing a part in the research. Candidates from a range of disciplines are welcome to apply. Experience working with children and young people in school or community settings is essential, and a background in community/social/climate campaigning, education or action is desirable.

- A salary of £21,805 per year.
- A tuition fee waiver for three years.
- An annual expense allowance of £500.
- A chance to investigate the values (civic, political and social) of children and young people, and their perceptions of the values of other generations.
- A research project that explores the spaces and opportunities where intergenerational values can be discussed with respectful dialogue, including schools and across communities.
- An opportunity to engage in creative research methodologies with children and young people.
Eligibility
- Applicants should have both an undergraduate degree and an MA in Education or a related discipline (or two disciplines).
- All non-native speakers of English must be soundly and demonstrably proficient in written and spoken English without artificial assistance.
- You must have applied for both a place on the PhD programme and a scholarship by the scholarship application deadline.
- The successful candidate must be available to begin their studies in September 2026 on a full-time basis.
- All scholarship applicants must live in the UK during their studies, within commutable distance to a Canterbury Christ Church University campus.
- The successful applicant will be required to undertake 150 hours of teaching-related work, normally during years 2 and 3 of study.

Download and fill out the research proposal form.
You will be required to write and submit this proposal which will be considered by an academic panel and you may be asked to interview with the Research Lead, potential supervisor, and panel members.
- Select ‘Education, Childhood and Youth Studies’ for the area of research.
- Select full-time study and the 2026 autumn start date.
- Tick the box on the proposal form to indicate application for a scholarship alongside a place on the PhD programme.
- You will be required to upload:
- two academic references
- your completed research proposal form
- a Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- evidence of your qualifications
- a pass in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if required.
